UNIZIK VC Prof Bond Anyaehie with Comrade Aloysius Attah
The Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, is set to celebrate its outstanding stars and members of alumni who are positively transforming and impacting the society, shaping industries and making great differences in their various areas of endeavours.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Anyaehie, made the disclosure while receiving in audience, Comrade Aloysius Emeka Attah, an award winning journalist and public relations practitioner, who presented to him, the triple journalism award prizes he won last year, in his office.
Attah, an alumnus of UNIZIK and Correspondent of The Sun Newspaper, was named the Star Prize Winner in the 2025 edition of Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna Prize for Ethical Journalism competition. He also won the Rukyatu Danjuma Prize Public Health Reporter of the Year at the Nigerian Media Merit Award (NMMA) as well as the Correspondent of the Year Award organised by the Correspondents Chapel, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council.
Comrade Attah, while presenting the awards to the Vice Chancellor, noted that he had always been inspired by the motto of the university –Discipline, Self- Reliance and Excellence, which he said, applies in his journalism and public relations career, always reflecting the ideals of the great Zik of Africa, whom the university is named after.
He also commended the Vice Chancellor for his open-door policy, prioritisation of students and staff welfare as well as his transformative ideas for the university, which he said the VC has demonstrated in practical terms within a few months of his assumption of office.
The Vice Chancellor congratulated Attah on his sterling achievements and for bringing honour to the university through his exploits in journalism and public relations practice.
He said the university takes record of the contributions of its alumni members in the advancement of a better society, noting that the true pride of any institution lies in the quality of its graduates and the measurable contributions they make towards societal growth and global development.
He said plans to sustain the UNIZIK Alumni Hall of Fame is intended to not only recognise the contributions of the great alumni members, but also encourage them to be the best, to do more for the society, and also tap from their great wealth of experience, resources, and contacts towards a greater UNIZIK.
“We are ready to tell the world the UNIZIK story through her people. Congratulations” the Vice Chancellor stated.
