Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital NAUTH
The management of the College of Nursing Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, Anambra State, says efforts are ongoing to address concerns raised by students following the recent increase in school fees.
The Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, Comrade Chukwuelue Chisom, disclosed this in a press release issued on Sunday and obtained by Daily Sun, stating that the union has begun engagements with the management of the institution over the matter.
The union also distanced itself from an earlier online publication that highlighted students’ dissatisfaction with the fee increment and suggested that students were planning protests.
According to the statement, the publication did not reflect the official position of the Students’ Union Government or the current discussions taking place between the student leadership and the school management.
“The attention of the Students’ Union Government has been drawn to an online publication concerning the recent increment in school fees in the college,” the statement said.
“The Union wishes to categorically state that it dissociates itself from the said publication, as it does not accurately represent the official position of the Students’ Union Government nor the current engagements between the student leadership and the management of the institution.”
The NAUTH student union explained that the review of school fees was formally communicated through an internal memo issued by the hospital management and the Board of the College of Nursing Sciences.
It added that the adjustment formed part of ongoing institutional efforts aimed at strengthening academic standards and upgrading the college to meet evolving educational requirements.
Despite this, the NAUTH SUG acknowledged that the new fees may place a financial strain on many students and their families.
“The Students’ Union Government equally recognizes the financial and emotional burden that the recent increment may place on students and their families,” the statement said.
“In view of this, the SUG leadership has initiated constructive dialogue and engagements with the college authorities and hospital management with the aim of presenting the concerns of students and exploring possible avenues for understanding and support.”
The union assured students that their welfare and academic stability remain a priority and pledged to continue representing their interests through dialogue with the authorities.
It also urged students to channel their grievances through official communication channels rather than relying on unverified reports or social media narratives that could escalate tensions.
“The SUG executives remain committed to ensuring that the interests, welfare, and academic stability of students are adequately represented and protected through responsible dialogue and institutional engagement,” the statement added. (The Sun)
