President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to lead a pack of dignitaries to the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island, Lagos, in South-West Nigeria as Igbo think tank Aka Ikenga celebrates its silver jubilee today.
Founded in 1988, Aka Ikenga is a non-partisan group made up of Igbo professionals aimed at dealing with the issues that affect Ndigbo, one of Nigeria’s three dominant ethnic groups.
The silver jubilee celebration is billed to attract captains of industry and Ndigbo who have excelled in the various fields of endeavour.
The activities lined up include symposium, keynote speeches, awards night and book presentation, according to Aka Ikenga President, Barrister Goddy Uwazurike. He gave the theme of the symposium as “Nigeria: The Challenge of Democracy”.
The Aka Ikenga President said that topics to be covered include “Live and let live (Egbe bere, ugo bere)”, “Citizenship and residency rights in Nigeria”, “Insecurity, conflict management and resolution in Nigeria”, as well as “Impact of the foreign policy of the United States of America and China on nation building”.
Uwazurike disclosed that the cerebral Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of Sokoto Diocese is the guest speaker.
