The Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON) is to honour Governor of Katsina State, Rt Hon Aminu Bello Masari, his Kano State counterpart, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, Leader of the Senate, Senator Ali Ndume, and the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumin Usman.
The award is part of activities marking the establishment of FISON in Nigeria, culminating in the holding of the society’s annual conference.
A statement signed by Dr Adegoke Agbabiaka, FISON’s National Conference Coordinator, stated that the award is aimed at drawing attention to strategic importance of the society in rescuing the nation from economic recession.
The theme of the conference is “Harnessing Resources for Fisheries and Agricultural Transformation: A Panacea For Food And Social Security In Nigeria”. Dr Agbabiaka said it will attract participants from across Nigeria.
He disclosed that the Keynote Address is to be presented by Dr Biodun Sule, Provost of the Federal College of Fisheries and Maritime Technology (FCFMT). Governor Masari is the Chief Host.
The date of the conference is October 30, 2016 to November 4, 2016 while venue is the auditorium of the Umar Musa Yar’Adua University, Katsina, with special exhibition by fish farmers and producers of fish products.
The National Coordinator dismissed fears about security scare during the conference, while noting that apart from assurances from the security agencies, that Katsina State is one of the most peaceful in the country.
“Invited guests and participants are to note the relative peace existing in the Katsina. The state has no record of insurgency and the status quo is expected to be maintained during the conference,” he stated.
