Aftermath of the bird strike
By ITOHAN ABARA-LASERIAN
United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) has confirmed flight disruptions after another bird strike hit one of its Airbus A320 aircraft, the second in 24 hours and fourth since January.
The incident occurred during take-off of Flight UN0519 at noon on Sunday from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The airline’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Chibuike Uloka, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos.
According to him, the affected aircraft has been withdrawn for comprehensive technical inspections in line with the airline’s strict safety standards.
He added that the latest incident brought to two the number of Airbus aircraft grounded within 24 hours.
“As a result, some flights across our network will be disrupted and may not operate as earlier scheduled.
“United Nigeria Airlines remains firmly committed to upholding the highest safety standards.
“This is indeed another bird strike too many. However, we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this unforeseen development may cause to travel plans.
“We kindly seek the understanding and patience of our valued passengers and the general public. Our team is working diligently to minimise disruptions,” Uloka said. (NAN, but headline reworked)
