Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, ex-Sierra Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma, and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu have commended Flutterwave as Africa’s leading technology-driven venture.
This is contained in a communiqué issued on Thursday in Abuja, by Mr David Abakpa, Flutterwave Media Consultant, following the company’s 10th-anniversary Gala Night held in Lagos.
The New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the commendation is in view of the technological firm advancing digital payments, financial inclusion, and innovation across the continent
The communiqué noted that Flutterwave’s decade of operations demonstrated the growing capacity of African technology firms to provide homegrown solutions to financial and economic challenges while competing on the global stage.
It highlighted Obasanjo’s recognition of the firm’s founder and Chief Executive Officer, Olugbenga Agboola, for effectively identifying and utilising economic opportunities.
Obasanjo described Agboola’s entrepreneurial vision as critical to Africa’s technological transformation.
The former president linked the rise of fintech innovation to earlier telecommunications reforms in Nigeria, which liberalised the sector and created an enabling environment for digital enterprises to thrive.
Koroma on his part, according to the communiqué, underscored Nigeria’s pivotal role in shaping Africa’s economic direction, stressing that technological successes recorded in the country have far-reaching implications for the ECOWAS sub-region and the continent at large.
He described Flutterwave’s growth as a continental achievement that supported deeper financial inclusion, eased cross-border transactions, and aligned with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 for economic integration and sustainable development.
According to the communiqué, Sanwo-Olu, emphasised the importance of empowering young Nigerians with opportunities, infrastructure, and education to sustain innovation and position the country as a global leader in digital finance.
The governor commended Flutterwave’s contribution to modernising payment systems and strengthening Nigeria’s status as a hub for technology and investment, noting that innovation remaines essential for national and continental growth.
The communiqué further called for sustained collaboration between governments, private sector players, and development partners to nurture emerging enterprises capable of accelerating Africa’s digital economy.
It concluded that Flutterwave’s milestone reflected the resilience, creativity, and potential of African entrepreneurs to drive inclusive prosperity and redefine the continent’s participation in global commerce. (NAN)
