The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have commenced an enumeration exercise for victims of the fire incident that razed the Great Nigeria Building, Marina, in December 2025.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said this on Monday, stating that the exercise would run from February 9 to 13 at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the exercise forms part of the post-incident recovery efforts, urging affected members of the public to participate.

He noted that the enumeration would aid documentation, recovery support, and necessary follow-up actions, adding that updates would be communicated as required.

According to him, affected persons are expected to cooperate with officials conducting the exercise.

Also speaking, the Deputy Director of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Adeokunmi Ajoke, said the exercise signalled the commencement of the documentation of victims affected by the December 24, 2025, fire outbreak.

Ajoke said the exercise, conducted in collaboration with LASEMA and other emergency responders, is aimed at identifying affected buildings, shop owners, and victims, noting that the incident resulted in loss of lives and property.

She said the exercise would help the government determine the extent of damage and provide necessary support, in line with the directive of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Ajoke added that the commission had begun risk assessments on buildings, particularly market structures, to identify hazards and develop preventive measures against future incidents.

She noted that collaboration with LASEMA and local government authorities would strengthen safety planning and help curb fire outbreaks and other hazards across the state. (The Nation)
