The Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, has called on Federal Government for immediate intervention and rehabilitation of all federal roads in the state.
Describing all federal roads as deplorable, the Governor said that the Apex Government’s intervention was needed to reduce the hardship faced by motorists and other road users.
Niger State being about one-tenth of the country’s land mass with the longest stretch of federal roads in the country, Governor Bello pointed out that the state bears most of the suffering caused by the bad state of the roads.
He said “It is not Nigerlites alone that suffer the bad state of all these federal roads but all other commuters who travel from north to south and south to north.
“We are however the worst hit; the development has started to affect the people and the state economy.
“We are appealing to the Federal Government to quickly intervene in rehabilitating these roads, as the state-maintained roads are now being over stretched and damaged by the heavy duty trucks, being the only (state roads) available to motorists.”
The maintenance of Lapai/Gulu/Muye Road is also receiving state government attention.
Federal roads in the state include Minna/Suleja Road; Mokwa/Bida Road; Bida/Agaie/Lapai/Lambata Road; Mokwa/Bokani /Makera/Tegina/Pandogari Road Makera/Kontagora Road, Minna/Sarkin Pawa/Kaduna Road.
Others are Kontagora/Yauri Road; Gulu/Muye/Gegu Road; Baro/Katcha/Agaie Road; Kontagora/Rijau Road, Bida/Lemu/Wushishi/Tegina Road and Mokwa/New Bussa Road.
