Nathan Jones had hoped to see an experienced Championship midfielder added to his Charlton Athletic squad.
Charlton Athletic bounced back from a heavy defeat to Millwall by picking up an impressive 2-0 win at Leicester City at the weekend, lifting spirits ahead of Deadline Day on Monday.
That result lifted the Addicks up to 18th in the Championship and move six points clear of the drop zone. Nathan Jones is looking to keep the London outfit away from a relegation dogfight over the business end of the campaign.
It’s been a busy January already for the club with Lyndon Dykes, Harry Clarke, Luke Chambers and Jayden Fevrier all arriving at The Valley. Charlton Athletic have also added Vojvodina defender Collins Sichenje to their ranks before the deadline.
One player who won’t be signed by Charlton Athletic looks to be QPR midfielder Sam Field. The experienced box-to-box star has been linked with an exit from Loftus Road after struggling for game time.
The Sun reporter Ian McCullough has carried the latest on a potential Field loan move and claims that Charlton Athletic had a loan offer accepted for the midfielder, along with Derby County. However, the 27-year-old was given the liberty to pick from the offers and went for another one that had been tabled.
Field is now set to join Norwich City with a medical at Carrow Road side completed today. Journalist Mark McAdam took to social media platform X on Deadline Day and wrote: “Norwich are hopeful of completing a Deadline Day deal for QPR midfielder Sam Field. It's understood the clubs are in advanced talks over a loan deal. He's expected in Norwich this afternoon to undergo a medical and to finalise the move.”
Meanwhile, Charlton Athletic are also expecting a cash injection as a knock-on effect of Ademola Lookman’s transfer to Atletico Madrid. The 28-year-old has spent four years at Atalanta, winning the Europa League in 2024, but is set for a fresh start.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano gave the transfer the ‘here we go’ treatment on Sunday. He wrote: “Ademola Lookman to Atlético Madrid, here we go! The agreement is in place on every detail.
“€35m fixed fee, €5m add-ons to Atalanta and long term deal agreed by Lookman after decision last night. Atlético, planning now for travel and medical next for the Nigerian.”
Lookman hasn’t played for Charlton Athletic since leaving the club for Everton in 2017 but it’s still expected that the Addicks will get some of that cash. Journalist Richard Cawley took to social media platform X on Deadline Day and wrote: “Indications are that #cafc will receive some funds if Ademola Lookman moves to Atletico Madrid today. No idea of how much at this stage. Atalanta attacker set to cost in region of £30m.” (OLondon World)
