ADC chieftain Akuma
By PETER ANOSIKE
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nelson Ahamefula Akuma, has described the defection of over 5,000 supporters of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State to ADC as an introduction of what is to come.
Speaking while reacting to the development, he said that in the coming general election, ADC would be the party to beat.
According to him, Nigerian people have seen that the ruling party that said that it is bound to its promises has not delivered anything meaning to the citizens since it came to power.
He added that every day comes with new promises, new excuses and the same hardship.
According to him, there is a saying that you can fool some people some time but you cannot fool all the people all the time.
He said that it is the realisation that the ruling party lack the capacity to handle the myriad of challenges confronting the country that is triggering the mass defections.
Speaking further, he said that the mass defection that was witnessed in Ebonyi State was just a tip of the iceberg because the wave of ADC is going to sweep through the nooks and crannies of the country.
He said that even though people no longer defend what is right but rather what would benefit them,
“As I speak, there are 141 million Nigerians living in multi-dimensional poverty. Life has become brutish and short because of insecurity. No sector of the country is working. This government has succeeded in mortgaging the future of our children and those still in the womb through excessive borrowing with absolutely nothing to show for it. We were told that the money they would save from removal of subsidy would be used for infrastructural development and yet we are still borrowing for debt servicing and other very frivolous spendings. Rather than try to cushion the economic effect of subsidy removal they have imposed a forged tax regime on us. So, there is no way Nigerians can continue in this vicious circle. ADC is now the beautiful bride and that is the reason why a lot of people are trooping into it,” Akuma said.
He called on Nigerians to take advantage of the on-going voter registration exercise to get their permanent voters cards.
According to him, one more year of APC in office at the centre might spell doom for the Nigerian masses.
