Delta State Police command spokesman, SP Bright Edafe
A 36-year-old woman identified as Ovie-Ogor, from Ughelli, has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly killing her husband, simply known as Famous, during a quarrel over an issue she has yet to disclose.
She reportedly took a machete and inflicted cuts on her husband five times. Not yet done, the woman was said to have sent her child to call a female neighbour, but as the neighbour opened the door and entered, she descended on her with the machete.
The Incident was disclosed by the command’s spokesman, SP Bright Edafe.
The suspect did not, however, stop there. She also took a hammer, went with her two children to another woman’s house on the street and deceived her by asking her to come to the rescue of her 12-year-old son, who was allegedly being beaten by her husband.
“As the lady bent down to pick some stuff to go with her, the assailant hit her with the hammer she was holding. The lady started screaming, which attracted the attention of someone. The person, who saw what the suspect was doing to the victim, raised an alarm and neighbours came to her rescue, held the attacker, seized the hammer and quickly rushed the victim to a hospital. The husband is dead and the two women are lying critically ill in the hospital,” SP Edafe disclosed.
The PPRO decried the way many people allow anger to overtake them, resulting in fatal outcomes. He noted that shortly before the suspect’s act, the Delta Police Command had posted a video advising Nigerians to control their temper because it had recorded about eight deaths from January 1 to that date. He added that it was unfortunate that it received another sad situation report the very next day after the advice was given.
When asked what led to her act against her husband and the two other victims in an interview, the suspect told the police: “He (the deceased) Is my husband but he didn’t pay my dowry. I have three children for him and we were living together. They are aged 12, 6 and 4. My husband was the one paying their school fees.
“It was anger that pushed me. I struck my husband with the machete five times. The women I also attacked are my enemies.”
She added: “I feel very bad. I don’t know where my children are presently.”
The police image maker said that the investigation is still ongoing. (Sunday Tribune)
