Akwa Ibom State Police Command PRO, DSP Timfon John
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading a viral social media report alleging that a police officer threw an object at a moving motorcycle, causing a minor to suffer a serious heart injury.
Speaking on the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Akwa Ibom State Command, DSP Timfon John, said the report did not reflect what transpired and should be disregarded by members of the public.
According to her, preliminary findings showed that the incident was a road traffic accident involving a cyclist, identified as Akaninyene Noah (male), who was riding against traffic and collided with another motorcycle conveying two schoolchildren to school.
“The collision caused both riders and the passengers to fall, leading to injuries. The injured children were immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention,” Timfon John stated.
She added that the cyclist, who violated traffic regulations, was arrested and taken to the police station, where his statement was obtained, noting that investigations are ongoing in line with extant laws.
The police spokesperson further disclosed that the Command has arrested the originator and circulator of the false report, identified as Imoh Emmanuel (male), for spreading misinformation capable of causing public panic.
“The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” she said.
She urged members of the public to ignore the misleading narrative circulating on social media and rely solely on information from official and credible sources.
She reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and the protection of lives and property across the state. (Nigerian Tribune)
