ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Aliyu
Dr Adamu Musa Aliyu, chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has condoled with Maureen Chigbo, publisher of Realnews, and the entire Chigbo family over the death of Barrister Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix Chigbo. Nwamaka was Maureen’s elder sister.
The chairman commiserated with the Chigbos in a condolence letter signed on his behalf by John Okor Odey, spokesperson and head, Media & Public Communications and dated January 15, 2026.
The full condolence reads: “On behalf of the chairman, Management and Staff of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), I wish to express our profound condolence to you, Maureen Chigbo, Publisher of Realnews Magazine, and to the entire Chigbo family on the tragic passing of your beloved sister, Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix Chigbo.
“Her murder in the most despicable manner on 5 January, 2026, is heartbreaking and unacceptable. It is deeply troubling that such violence continues to undermine the sanctity of human life within our nation.
“The ICPC stands with you in this moment of grief and encourages you, as a respected voice in the fight against corruption, to remain steadfast in you’re advocacy. Your courage and commitment are vital in confronting the menace of corruption, banditry and kidnapping.
“May your faith in God sustain you, and may His grace grant you and your family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.’’
Realnews reports that the family of Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix Chigbo, an Abuja-based lawyer, sadly announced her brutal death at the hands of still-to-be-identified kidnappers in the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory on Monday, 5th January 2026.
Before her abduction, Barrister Nwamaka was on the phone with her sister Anthonia, who briefly interrupted the call to attend to a client. When she reverted, the barrister’s phone was still live, and Anthonia could hear her sister’s distress cry before the phone suddenly went dead and unreachable.
Nwamaka was an active member and former treasurer of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja, a member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, Out Okaiwu (Igbo Lawyers), African Women Lawyers, AWLA, 2003 Law Class Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the Global Association of Female Lawyers, GAFA. She was a former Vice President of National Association of Catholic Lawyers, Abuja.
An ardent catholic, Nwamaka authored a book on Infant Jesus, and until death was the vice president of the Holy Infant Jesus Society, member of the Confraternity of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, Legion of Mary, Sacred Heart of Jesus, St. Joseph Association and Holy Face of Jesus.
The family expresses Its gratitude to the Police for their efforts and cooperation so far, and urges the force to ensure that justice is served in Nwamaka’s case.
The family also wishes to thank Nwamaka’s friends, colleagues and well-wishers for their support and prayers. Her funeral arrangements will be announced as soon as possible.
