The 2027 presidential hopeful of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr. Peter Obi, has donated ₦15 million to two institutions owned by the Anglican Diocese of Nnewi (ADON) to support improvements in health and vocational education.
Obi donated ₦10 million to the ADON College of Health Technology, Nnewi, and ₦5 million to the ADON Vocational and Technical Academy, Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Speaking during the visit, Obi said each encounter with faith-based institutions reminded him that churches were stepping in because of the failure of government to adequately provide education, healthcare and social services for citizens.
According to him, his continued support for such institutions is driven by the need to strengthen organisations that are filling critical gaps left by the state.
“I was here last year, and the cheque you received then was for a previous pledge. I am here now to present ₦10 million for this year,” Obi said at the College of Health Technology.
He described students as the foundation of Nigeria’s future and stressed the importance of supporting institutions responsible for shaping young people.
“Students are part of our youths, and they form the foundation of the country we hope for tomorrow. We must support institutions that are moulding them into who we want them to become,” he said.
Obi added that the Anglican Diocese was doing what government and politicians ought to be doing, urging continued prayers for the church’s leadership and its educational mission.
At the ADON Vocational and Technical Academy in Ozubulu, Obi inspected facilities before presenting the ₦5 million cheque to the rector, Rev. Engr. Prince Igwe, reiterating his commitment to vocational training and skills development. (Arise News)
