Osborne, son of the Minister of Works, Sen David Umahi
By CHUKWUEMEKA OPARA
Osborne, Son of the Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, has obtained the chairmanship form for Ohaozara Local Government Area (LGA) in the forthcoming Ebonyi council polls.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Osborne was among aspirants endorsed by Gov. Francis Nwifuru as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for the election in the 13 LGAs of the state.
The endorsement drew diverse reactions from political watchers across the state, with Umahi describing it as the height of appreciation by the governor.
Osborne, accompanied by well-wishers and supporters, obtained the N30million form at the party secretariat in Abakaliki on Friday.
He, however, declined comments when approached by newsmen.
The State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Francis Ori, who was present at the secretariat when the form was obtained, said that Osborne would be a worthy representative of the people.
“He is a chip of the old block and will replicate his father’s wonders in Ebonyi as former governor and as minister in Nigeria.
“The people are solidly behind him and would further demonstrate such support at the polls.”
NAN recalls that Umahi”s political relationship with Nwifuru dates back to 2008 when he(Umahi)was the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and Nwifuru, an Ex–Officio.
Umahi later became the state governor between 2015–2023, and ensured that Nwifuru emerged the Speaker of the state House of Assembly within the same period.
The minister had declared on several fora that he “fought battles” to ensure that his “son” Nwifuru succeeded him as governor in 2023. (NAN)
