A 19-year-old driver, identified as Nsikak Okon, has been apprehended by the police following a series of high-speed, reckless manoeuvres that left three police officers injured in Edo State.
The Public Relations Officer for the Nigeria Police Force, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, detailed the harrowing incident on his official X handle on Friday, while reacting to a viral video of the suspect’s eventual arrest.
An X user, #ChuksEricE, posted the video on Thursday with the caption, “The Benz driver who attempted to escape from security operatives in Benin City, Edo State, today after hitting several cars and some pedestrians, was later apprehended.”
Commenting on the post on Friday, Hundeyin said Okon was driving a heavily tinted vehicle with no license plates when he first encountered officers on the road.
“You were driving a fully and heavily tinted vehicle without number plates. You met police officers on the road and sped past in a very reckless manner,” Hundeyin wrote.
“On your way back, you sped past again, nearly knocking down an officer. And in what appears to be very deliberate, you came back again with the same reckless speed, this time successfully knocking down three officers,” he added.
The FPRO noted that while two of the officers have since been discharged from the hospital, one remains under medical care for injuries sustained during the collision.
He explained that the rampage did not end there, as Okon’s reckless driving damaged other vehicles before he was intercepted and apprehended by authorities.
A subsequent search of his vehicle led to the discovery of substances suspected to be hard drugs.
“You proceeded to damage other people’s vehicles before you were eventually apprehended.
“Upon searching your vehicle, substances suspected to be hard drugs were found,” he revealed.
“Why have you decided to start your 2026 like this, 19-year-old Nsikak Okon?” Hundeyin questioned in his post, highlighting the gravity of the offences, which include reckless driving and possession of illicit substances. (PUNCH)
