Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate
By BONIFACE AKARAH
Former Anambra State governor and ex Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged the Super Eagles to put their semi-final disappointment behind them and focus on securing the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Obi gave the charge in a message posted on his official X handle on Tuesday, following Nigeria’s narrow semi-final defeat after a hard-fought encounter.
“Dearest gallant Super Eagles, it was a battle well fought and heads were not bowed,” Obi wrote, praising the team’s effort over the course of the match.
He thanked the players for what he described as “a beautiful 120 minutes of incredible play,” noting that the team showed resilience and determination despite the outcome.
“The journey is not over. You have made the nation proud. Keep your heads high, the Eagle never stops soaring,” he said.
Obi encouraged the team to channel their disappointment into motivation ahead of the third-place match, urging them to go all out for the bronze medal.
“There is another stage, let’s go get that medal. You have done well,” he added.
The Super Eagles are expected to face the loser of the second semi-final in the third-place playoff as they aim to finish the tournament on a strong note.
