Hundreds of travellers were stranded for several hours on Saturday, for several hours on the Lagos -Ibadan highway due to a container falling and a tanker breakdown around Iperu bridge.
Sunday Tribune learnt that a container fell off its carrier while a fuel tanker also broke down at the same spot, thereby obstructing the free flow of traffic.
This development led to heavy traffic gridlock, which extended from Ogere to the Mowe axis of Ogun State.
It was learnt that the incident which happened at about 10.00 am lasted for several hours.
Speaking with our correspondent, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun Command, Superintendent Route Commander, Odunsi Afolabi, said steady traffic flow had been restored.
He said that operatives of the Command from the Ogere unit command are ensuring lane discipline and managing the traffic situation.
Odunsi added that the required logistics are awaited to remove the obstruction.
He said, “Sequel to the earlier reported crash that caused the total blockage of the carriage way on the outward section of the expressway around the Iperu Bridge, traffic has been diverted from the Lagos Ibadan route to the Ibadan Lagos axis at Romona park turning, creating a counter flow which terminates at Total filling station turning which is about a distance of 2 km.
“Presently, we are experiencing steady traffic flow, and FRSC operatives from the Ogere unit command are ensuring lane discipline and managing the traffic situation while we await the required logistics to remove the obstruction.” (TRIBUNE)
