Arewa Progressives Frontiers has raised concerns over the status of Nyesom Wike, Federal Capital Territory minister in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This followed a recent confrontation between Wike and Ajibola Basiru, the APC national secretary.
In a statement by their National Secretary, Zuhairiyat Pitiko, the group advised Wike to concentrate on his ministerial duties rather than meddling in internal party issues. They criticized Wike for publicly attacking Basiru, whom they describe as an accomplished figure within the APC.
“Wike does not have a monopoly on disruptive behavior,” the statement emphasised, highlighting that aggressive actions against Senator Basiru, the “custodian of our party secretariat” are unacceptable to genuine progressives. The group condemned Wike’s history of bullying and intimidation toward political opponents, asserting that this incident would not go unchallenged.
The group questioned Wike’s motives, asking, “What exactly is the offense of the National Secretary of APC?” and asserted that the minister’s strong reactions are unwarranted. The group also clarified their stance, declaring, “Is Nyesom Wike a member of APC? Why is he crying more than the bereaved?”
Expressing unwavering support for Basiru, the Arewa Progressives Frontiers commended his commitment to the party’s growth and urged stakeholders to rally behind him for a stronger APC and a prosperous Nigeria. They called for Wike to focus on his ministerial responsibilities and avoid perceived interference in APC matters.
It urged Victor Giadom, the APC Vice Chairman for the South South, to prioritize unity among party members in Rivers State and the broader South South region. They emphasized the importance of healing divisions and fostering inclusivity within the APC.
The group reiterated their call for focus on party unity and collective goals, encouraging all stakeholders to work towards strengthening the APC in Rivers State and across Nigeria. (Sun)
