The Niger State Police command has deployed bomb experts to evacuate a bomb discovered by the roadside in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, made this known on Tuesday when he confirmed the discovery of the bomb.
Elleman said there was one and not three bombs.
He urged the people to go about their legitimate businesses without fear of intimidation, saying experts had been deployed to evacuate the bomb professionally.
“An explosive device was found in the state. The command has deployed bomb experts to the scene to ascertain and possibly detonate the explosive. It was one explosive device and not three as claimed by the villagers.
“People should go about their legitimate businesses without fear of intimidation. Experts have been deployed to evacuate the bomb professionally,” he said.
Farmers who were going to their farm in Ganaru community in Zugurma district of Mashegu local government area were said to have seen three explosive devices planted by the roadside and raised an alarm.
The chairman of Mashegu local government, Jibrin Egade, told our reporter on Tuesday that the area has been cordoned off from the people to avoid an explosion that could lead to casualties.
Egade, who expressed shock over the discovery of such dangerous explosives in the community, where he said, there was no security challenges expressed surprise.
He noted that he has informed the security agencies of the matter.
“Some farmer in my local government were going to their farm when they found the explosives planted by the roadside. They immediately contacted me. I have also contacted the security agencies and they have taken over the place.
“My people and I were surprised to see a bomb planted in our domain. There is no security challenge here,” he said.
Terrorists attacked Agwara and Borgu local government areas on Saturday killed 42 people and abducting others.
The spokesman of the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the killings and said a deployment of security operatives had gone to rescue the abducted persons. (Punch)
