The Anambra State Police Command, on Monday, highlighted the security intervention measure it applied during the 2025 yuletide in collaboration with other security agencies to record significant operational successes.
It reeled out the successes to include maintenance of public safety, apprehension of suspects, and protection of lives and property across the state.
Hinting on the arrest of a suspect over cyber bullying and defamation, the Command in a statement said that police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), at about 3.20pm on 31st December 2025, arrested a female suspect, Eucharia Ogochukwu, aged 42, at Awka, in connection with an alleged case of criminal conspiracy, cyber bullying, and defamation of character against a very senior police officer who once served in the Command.
The statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, said that preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect allegedly engaged in coordinated online activities aimed at damaging the reputation of the Assistant Commissioner of Police.
He said that in the course of interrogation, the suspect made useful statements to the Police.
According to Ikenga, investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend other persons who may be connected with the incident.
On the subheading, “Police Contain Issues During Town Union Elections Held Within The Festive Period”, the Police spokesman confirmed the successful containment of security-related issues that arose during Town Union elections conducted in some communities across the state within the festive period.
The statement reads in part: "Police operatives, working in synergy with other security agencies and community stakeholders, were promptly deployed to affected areas upon receiving reports of tension and disagreements associated with the electoral process.
"The timely intervention of the Police prevented the breakdown of law and order, ensured the safety of residents, and restored calm in the affected communities."
While commending community leaders, town union officials, and residents for their cooperation and restraint, which greatly contributed to the peaceful resolution of the issues, the Command advised community members, candidates, supporters, and other stakeholders who are still not satisfied with the outcome to channel their grievances through lawful and established mechanisms.
It added that to this end, a joint security patrols were intensified across major highways, commercial centres, places of worship, and recreational areas throughout the festive period, saying that the measure resulted in a calm and hitch-free celebration in most parts of the state.
