Akande Omoniyi, Ogun State Commissioner for Housing
Ogun State Government has disclosed plans to construct housing units for workers across the state on 5,000 plots of land as part of efforts to improve workers’ welfare.
The State Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Akande Omoniyi, said this on Monday, at a press conference held at the Ministry’s conference room in Abeokuta, on the programmes of the Ministry in 2026.
Omoniyi explained that the Office of the Head of Service of the State would be in charge of the project for allocation to workers.
He added that workers would buy the housing units on mortgage while payment modalities would be spread over a period of time.
The Commissioner hinted that government had acquired 5000 plots of land for the execution of the project.
He said, “This project will cater for workers in the state. It will cover for the low and medium income earners under the purview of the Office of the Head of Service.
“The State Government has acquired 5000 plots of land for the project. Workers in the state would apply for the housing unit through the office of the Head of Service. Payment would be spread for over a period of time.”
The Commissioner said the ministry’s budget for 2026 was strategically positioned to scale up delivery across multiple fronts.
While identifying the construction of an International Conference Centre (GIA) at Iperu, a modern 2,500-seater-capacity Banquet Hall/Centre; construction of the Appeal Court Headquarters and Residences; Ibara GRA Phase II comprising 50 duplexes, as well as Commissioners’ Quarters, Appointees’ Quarters, and Assembly Quarters.
He said the projects were conceived to align with the development blueprint of the State, and ensuring that growth in governance, justice delivery, hospitality, and residential infrastructure progresses in a coordinated, sustainable, and people-centred manner. (Nigerian Tribune)
