POLICEMAN
Some irate youths on Friday night at Ijora Badia, Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, allegedly launched attack on police operatives and injured two officers.
Sunday Sun reliably gathered that the incident occurred on Amusu steet during a party organized by the youths of Amusu/Matiminu in celebration of the festive period. The enraged attackers were said to have proceeded to Bubble Land Hotel, located on Obale road, owned by Alhaji Adeleke Adeshina, Chief Security Adviser to the Executive Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, and vandalised the property.
Several items which including highlander jeep, television sets in the hotel rooms, windows and assorted beer bottles were reportedly shattered by the brigands. Two mini buses, belonging to members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), parked in front of the hotel were equally vandalised.
The attempt by the rampaging youths to launch an attack on Anago Hall of the Apapa-Iganmu LCDA secretariat were said to be rebuffed by security operatives. Consequently, they resulted to pelting the newly purchased 32- seaters Coaster staff bus with stones.
According to eye witness account, trouble started around 9.00pm, when police operatives attached to the Lagos State Police Commissioner Tactical Squad, 2nd Rainbow, arrived the scene and demanded the permit authorizing the party. This was in enforcement of the order of the Local Government, banning night parties beyond 8.00pm.
Following the ensuing melee, the aggrieved youths were alleged to have overpowered the operatives led by DSP Amos Akpoyibo, hit him with planks and other dangerous objects, inflicting severe injuries on him and one Inspector Johnson. The concerned cops were compelled to release tear gas to escape from the scene.
Findings revealed that the chief security adviser to the council chairman was attacked on the assumption that the policemen came to obstruct the party. Instead, Police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Badia Division CSP. Salawudeen Kazeem were said to have arrived the scene to restore normalcy.
Two suspects were reportedly arrested while vandalizing the Bubble Land Hotel by local security operatives and handed over to the police.
In a telephone chat, the Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command, Olohundare Jimoh Moshood, denied knowledge of the incident, saying he was yet to be briefed. He promised to enquire from the aforementioned Division and revert.
“ I’ am not aware of the incident. Such information has not come on air this morning because I’ve been on the radio since. But I will call to find out and get back”, CP Olohundare said.
However, a senior police officer, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident, claiming that the boys were found of attacking police operatives whenever they were on lawful operations in the area.
His words; “I can confirm that the incident happened, but the area is now calm. Two suspects have been arrested and handed over to Second Rainbow Tactical Squad “. (The Sun)
