Detained IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu
The Igbo community in Sokoto has honoured the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu with so Christmas gifts at the Sokoto Correctional Centre where he is serving life sentence.
A statement by Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu said the Igbo community in Sokoto, in a profound demonstration of compassion and communal solidarity, after honouring Kanu with gifts, equally in a remarkable act of charity, extended the largesse to other inmates at the Sokoto Correctional Facility.
“The initiative was inspired by the disposition of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently detained at the facility. Understanding his reported preference not to dine alone, especially during the festive season of Christmas, the community made a decisive and inclusive choice.
“Rather than limiting their generosity to a single individual, they elected to provide festive meals for the entire inmate population of the facility. This benevolent act ensured that all approximately 1,300 inmates shared in the spirit of the season.”
The statement added that the leadership of the Igbo Community in Sokoto stated that the gesture was rooted in the enduring Igbo principles of Onye Aghana Nwanne Ya (be your brother’s keeper) and the universal values of charity and fellowship.
“This commendable action underscores a commitment to humanity and shared goodwill, offering a moment of comfort and inclusivity during the holiday period.”
The statement had it that the Igbo community in Sokoto was of the view that its act of kindness will contribute to the peace and unity of Nigeria. (Daily Sun)
