The couple, Godwin and Blessing Nwosu
An Abia couple, Mr. and Mrs. Godwin Nwosu, natives of Arochukwu Local Government Area but residents of Agbama Housing Estate in Umuahia North Local Government Area, has appealed to well-meaning Nigerians for assistance after a fire outbreak rendered them homeless.
Speaking in an interview, the distraught couple said their four children narrowly escaped death, as the incident occurred while the children were asleep. They attributed their survival to divine intervention.
Mrs. Blessing Amaka Godwin explained that the fire was caused by a candle the children had lit to read before falling asleep. The couple said they were not at home when the fire broke out.
Mr. Godwin Nwosu, a tricycle operator in Umuahia, lamented that the inferno destroyed everything the family had worked for throughout 2025, leaving them with nothing.
“I am now homeless with my family. The fire razed the entire house, and we could not salvage anything because my wife and I were not at home when it happened,” he said, appealing to kind-hearted individuals to come to their aid.
Mrs. Blessing Nwosu, a primary school teacher in Umuahia, said she resorted to buying a candle due to prolonged power outages in the area.
“We do not usually use candles in this house, but there has been no electricity in Agbama for four days. I bought it so I could read and prepare for my NCE examinations,” she explained.
The couple is appealing for support to help provide food, temporary shelter, and assistance in rebuilding their destroyed home. (The Nation)
