Five suspected armed robbers who allegedly operated under the guise of vigilante personnel to rob unsuspecting residents in Awka and its environs have been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command.
The suspects all males include: Solomon Saddah, Okolocha George Kaosisochukwu, John Obi Ogwaju, Chukwuemeka Chisom Ikenwa and Eze Obinna Joshua
Confiming the arrest on Sunday, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement said the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, in the course of ongoing investigations into a case of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery
He said that during interrogation, the suspects made useful statements admitting involvement in criminal activities, and also revealed how they operate in a shuttle bus under the guise of vigilante personnel to commit havoc.
According to the Police spokesperson, the suspects are currently cooperating with the Police and providing information that will assist in uncovering other criminal collaborators and networks.
Items recovered from the suspects include, two pump-action guns, five live cartridges, one ash coloured shuttle bus, face masks, plate number and other incriminating items.
While urging residents of the state to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information, the state Police Command expressed its resolve at ensuring the safety and security of lives and property, adding that further developments will be communicated.
