Late Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo
By ABDULKABIR MUHAMMED
Niger Delta Youth For Good Governance (NDYFGG) has mourned the passing of the Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, late Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, describing him as’an “honest, humble and principled leader.”
In a statement released by the NDYFGG in Warri, Delta State, Comrade Lucky O. O. Ukueku, the national president of the group, expressed sadness at the death of the Deputy Governor, describing his passing as a great loss to the Niger Delta at a critical time.
“It is deeply saddening that we have lost such a person from our region,” he said.
“This is a great loss to the Niger Delta, especially at a time when we need people of his calibre in Nigerian politics—honest, humble, and principled leaders,” he added.
Comrade Ukueku also consoled the deceased’s family and the Bayelsa State Government, especially the Ofoni Federal Community, Ewhrudjakpo’s hometown.
“On behalf of the Niger Delta Youth For Good Governance (NDYFGG) Forum, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, political associates, the Bayelsa State government, and particularly the people of Ofoni Federal Community, his ancestral home. We pray that God grants them the fortitude to bear this loss and receives his soul into His bosom. It is indeed a huge loss.”
The group also urged the family to maintain the legacy of the late Senator Ewhrudjakpo, while asking the State Government to support the bereaved.
Ewhrudjakpo, 60, died on December 11, 2025, after failing to survive a slump in his office in Yenagoa. The Senator has been praised for his loyalty to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), refusing to defect following his boss’s, Governor Duoye Diri’s defection a few weeks earlier.
