A Nigerian woman, Helen Williams, has claimed a hat-trick of Guinness World Records after creating a wig taller than a three-storey building.
Williams, a professional wig maker, had previously set records for the world’s longest handmade wig at 351.28 metres (1,152 ft 5 in) and the widest wig at 3.65 metres (11 ft 11 in).
She has now added the tallest wig to her collection, measuring 15.37 metres (50.42 ft) from the top of her head.
Guinness World Records confirmed the achievement in a post on its website on Wednesday and shared it on social media with the caption: “Tallest wig – 15.37 metres (50.42 ft) made by Helen Williams (Nigeria).”
“I don’t think I’ll ever stop breaking records. To have a record is like climbing a mountain. The climb is hard and full of challenges, but the view from the top is incredible. Breaking another record shows that nothing is impossible,” she told GWR.
She said the construction of the tallest wig posed significant challenges.
She recounted that a test run initially failed, forcing her to redesign the internal structure to ensure stability.
She used 250 bundles of synthetic hair, with the project costing over ₦3 million (approximately $2,066/£1,551) and taking two weeks to complete.
“The longest wig was easiest as a wig maker, but the tallest wig was the most technical and challenging because of the construction of the structure.
“You can know how to make a wig and have 10 or 20 years of experience, but if the internal structure doesn’t hold, you won’t get the record,” she adds.
She also holds additional records, including the most hair clips in a wig in 30 seconds (94) and the most hair clips on the head in 30 seconds (97).
She described her achievements as a testament to courage, determination, and the ability to overcome doubt and fear.
“There are more records to break, more boundaries to push, and more dreams to achieve,” she said. (Punch)
