Activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore has disclosed that his footballer son, Komi, draws inspiration from Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen.
Sowore disclosed this in a Facebook post on Monday, while decrying the seizure of his passport that has prevented him from visiting his United States-based family.
On January 30, 2025, Justice Musa Liman of the Federal High Court, Abuja ordered the seizure of Sowore’s passport as part of his bail conditions after his arraignment by the Inspector General of Police over alleged cybercrime.
In March, the activist made an unsuccessful application to the court seeking the release of his passport to enable him visit his family in the US.
In his Facebook post, the Sahara Reporters publisher noted that his footballer son, Komi, has been deprived the joy of having his father watch him play.
“Today is a celebration of my son, Komi Sowore.
“Despite nursing a hand injury, he continues to play the game he loves, (football), on the field, with or without his father present.
“That absence is not by choice,” he said.
Sowore insisted that the seizure of his passport “was to punish a father whose so-called ‘crusading’ insistence on justice and truth has made him inconvenient to power”.
He added, “Komi, however, understands sacrifice early in life. He plays on, focused, determined, and undeterred because his dream is clear, to one day represent Nigeria and to win for Nigeria (if possible).
“His inspiration is Victor Osimhen and his hunger to succeed reflects the same relentless drive, discipline, and belief.” (The Sun)
