A decomposed body of an Islamiyya teacher and father of seven, identified as Mallam Awwal Yakubu, has been discovered in an uncompleted building at the Talba Housing Estate in Minna, Niger State capital.
The deceased, who operated an Islamiyya school in the Barikin-Saleh area, was reported missing on Thursday before his body was found on Sunday morning.
Daily Trust gathered that his remains were discovered with his private parts burnt.
Eyewitnesses also said a pack of matches was found beside the body.
A community leader, Mallam Mahmud Dalhatu Iya, told Daily Trust that the relatives of the deceased had identified the body, which has since been buried.
“My attention was drawn to a decomposed body in an uncompleted building in our estate. We reported the matter to the police. We were there when someone came and said he was the deceased’s friend, explaining that he had been missing since Thursday. His remains have been prepared for burial as I speak to you,” he said.
Spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday.
According to him, “Today, 7th December 2025, at about 10 a.m., a report was received that a corpse was found behind Talba Estate, Bida Road, Kpakungu. Police operatives of Kpakungu Division moved to the scene and found a decomposed body in an uncompleted building, which was later identified by relatives as Auwal Yakubu, 45, residing in the same area.”
He added, “The body was suspected to have been dumped at the location, as the deceased had been reported missing since 4th December until his body was found this morning. The corpse was evacuated to the hospital, and an investigation to unravel the cause of death has commenced.” (Daily Trust)
