The inspector-general of police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, has unveiled Delta State as the host of 2026 Nigeria Police Games.
Speaking at the unveiling of the mascot for the 2026 Police Games, tagged ‘Asaba 2026’ on Wednesday in Abuja, the IGP said: “we are not just unveiling a mascot, we are unveiling a renewed spirit as we prepare for the 15th Nigeria Police Games in Asaba.
“Sports remain one of the strongest tools for building the Force we envision: disciplined, fit, focused, and connected to the communities we serve. The Police Games have become a symbol of unity and excellence, and they continue to showcase the best of our talent and character.
“This administration is intentional about raising standards. We are preserving our sporting heritage, yes, and indeed, we are elevating it. A stronger Police Force begins with stronger officers, and that is why we invest in wellness, discipline, and mental readiness. of our officers.”
The IGP further stated that, “I extend deep appreciation to the executive governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, for hosting the 2026 Games and for the remarkable support already visible today. Delta State has always been a home of sporting excellence, and we are confident that Asaba will deliver a ‘Games’ worthy of our institution.”
Also speaking, the Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, said the Biennial Police Games have become a platform for strengthening camaraderie, discovering sporting talent, and promoting fitness and discipline among officers as “they demonstrate the Police Forces role not only in securing the nation but also in fostering national unity and social cohesion.”
The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, expressed the readiness of the State Government to host a successful game and stating that, “The logo we unveil today symbolizes identity and pride; the mascot reflects energy and courage; and the theme speaks to friendship, brotherhood, and excellence, values that define both policing and sportsmanship.
“I commend the Inspector-General of Police and the organizing committee for their dedication, and I salute the athletes who will represent the Force with honour and integrity.
“Delta State is proud to host this edition of the games, and we welcome all participants and guests to an atmosphere of peace, hospitality, and celebration. May the 15th Biennial Police Games inspire greatness and strengthen the bonds within our Police Force and across our nation.” (LEADERSHIP)
