Revealed: Why Airtel dominated telecom industry awards

Reasons have been adduced for why leading telecommunication services provider, Airtel Nigeria, won three major categories at the 8th Nigerian Telecoms Awards held last weekend in Lagos.

A statement on behalf of the telco giant made available to News Express attributed the feat to Airtel’s “enviable strides in charting new paths in meeting the demands and needs of its esteemed stakeholders through superior brand experience, a rich portfolio of innovative products and services ranging from exciting voice solutions to inventive data packages and mobile broadband.”

It would be recalled that Airtel Nigeria beat other competitors to win the industry’s Most Innovative Telecom Company of the Year, Telecom Brand of the Year and Consumer Friendly Operator of the Year awards at the awards organised by industry journal Nigerian Telecom News and the Logica Media Group.

According to information from the organisers, Airtel Nigeria got the Telecom Brand of the Year Award based from public opinion, industry estimation, research, interaction and experts evaluation on the strength of shown “prudence of advertising and marketing, new advertising and message, new face, new ambassador, value of ambassador and face representation, domesticated message, intensity of message and creativity.”

The company also clinched the Most Consumer Friendly Operator of the year having excited “consumers with pocket-friendly offers, freebies, holidays, bonuses, free calls and exceptional customer relations policy”. Other things that account for Airtel’s strong showing at this year’s awards include its innovative offerings like the 2good package, My Airtel My offer (MAMO), Club 10, Quick Talk and Club Business among others.

The well-attended awards ceremony held Saturday night, Sept. 8, was graced by a huge presence of dignitaries from both the private and public sectors.

Receiving the awards on behalf of the company, Airtel Nigeria’s Director of Customer Service, Ajai Bakshi, reassured of the company’s commitment to availing Nigerians of most exciting and affordable telecom experience while providing platforms to empower Nigerians to achieve their dreams.

In his speech, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Telecommunications Awards, Chief Alex Akinyele, said that their credibility has sustained the awards over the years. He pledged that the Board of Trustees would continue to live above board to retain the credibility of the awards among stakeholders.

The pioneer Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, in his speech, commended the organisers of the Awards because, “though a lot of progress has been made since the advent of telecommunications in Nigeria, initiatives such as these awards spur further development that can ensure that Nigeria keeps pace with developments and innovations across the world.”

Some of the notable dignitaries at the event were the Executive Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Rauf Aregbesola, His Deputy, Mrs Grace Titi-Laoye Tomori, and the pioneer Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Ernest Ndukwe. There were also former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Segun Osoba, former Minister of Communications, Chief Olawale Ige, and former Minister of Defence and Communications, Bello Halilu Mohammed.
