Vincent Kompany at Man City? Pep Guardiola already said “yes” according to Bayern Munich ex-President

Will the FC Bayern manager take over Manchester City in the future?

When Uli Hoeneß speaks, the earth shakes. This time, he revealed that Pep Guardiola already sees current Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany as his successor at Manchester City in the future. It seems the Spaniard rates his former player very highly.

Speaking as a guest during the “Power Days” event hosted by business coach Jürgen Höller, Hoeneß spoke about the conversation he had with Pep Guardiola around the time Vincent Kompany was hired (via Bild, translation courtesy of @iMiaSanMia).

“Kompany learned a lot from Pep Guardiola. When Max Eberl suggested Kompany as the third or fourth option, Karl-Heinz and I called Pep Guardiola, with whom we are both very good friends, and asked him. Pep said, ‘You can take him blindly, he’s a fantastic coach, he’ll even take over Man City someday when I’m no longer there.’ - Vincent is there at 7:30 in the morning and leaves at 6 in the evening. He’s someone who talks to the players. He wants to make every player better every day. Few do that. He does it every single day,” said Hoeneß.

How angry would you have to be to use delicious, gooey, cheesy pizza as a weapon? If your first thought is, "I would never weaponize that sweet treat," then congratulations - you are a good person. Unfortunately, not all are like you. In 2004, Arsenal visited Manchester United. They brought with them an unbeaten streak of 49 matches - quite impressive regardless of how much you know about soccer (pronounced "football" outside of the US). These teams had a bit of bad blood between them, basically battling as bewildered bystanders basked in their beauty. This time though, it spilled over to after the game. We've already told you what happens (pizza toss, sorry, spoiler), but enjoy this journey into a seemingly fictional land where some fool would throw away such a delicious treat, all in the name of rivalry.

Now, Kompany only recently extended his contract at Bayern Munich, which will keep him at the club until June 2029. Guardiola, meanwhile, has a contract with the citizens until 2027. So, if City want to bring him to the Etihad when Pep leaves, they will have to buy out his contract with Bayern Munich. That will not come cheap — if it does happen, expect a fee higher than the one Bayern paid for Nagelsmann back in 2021 (around 25 million euros).

Kompany has proven himself as a top coach this season, although his mettle in the Champions League remains in doubt. Most will agree that Bayern Munich under his stewardship are a top three side in the world right now. His stock has risen considerably — he is no longer just the man who got relegated with Burnley.

Do you agree with Pep? Do you think Kompany is ready to take on his legacy at Man City? And if he is, will Bayern Munich let him go? (Bavarian Football Works)
