The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a suspected gunman who allegedly escaped from a criminal camp at Ukpor after a disagreement with his associates.
This was contained in a press statement issued on Tuesday, by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
He attributed the success to the intensified security surveillance, strengthened visibility policing, expanded routine and targeted patrols ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu.
According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Emmanuel Osuigwe, was arrested in the evening of Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Amakwa, Ozubulu, by operatives attached to the Ozubulu Police Division in joint operation with the Ozubulu Central Vigilante.
According to the Command, the suspect attracted attention after being observed to be acting suspiciously and allegedly attempted to hide upon sighting the joint patrol team, but was immediately intercepted and apprehended.
The statement partly reads: “A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a handcuff, while visible marks and wounds of handcuff were also observed on his body.
“During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to being a member of a proscribed secessionist group and further claimed that he recently escaped from a camp located at Ukpor after a disagreement with other members of the group.”
Meanwhile, the state Police Command has confirmed that the suspect is in custody and currently undergoing further interrogation, even as it was gathered that information obtained from him is already proving useful to ongoing investigations.
While reassuring the residents of its commitment to sustaining peace, maintaining security, and safeguarding lives and property across the state, the Command assured that updates will be provided as investigations continue.
