The Kano State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has reiterated the existing ban on the conveyance of passengers on all forms of motorcycles and the restriction of commercial tricycles from operating between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am daily across the state.
This was contained in a statement issued by the command spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, in Kano on Monday.
Kiyawa said that the laws, as earlier announced by the Kano State Government, remained in force in the following local government areas: Kano Municipal, Gwale, Dala, Fagge, Nassarawa, Tarauni, Kumbotso, Ungogo (Jido area) and Dawakin Kudu (Tambuwal, Gurjiya and Jido wards).
He explained that the enforcement team was empowered to profile individuals who flaunt the ban and to curb the spread of unverified information that could cause fear or confusion.
The police reminded the operators of motorcycles and commercial tricycles that the measures were intended to enhance public safety and security.
Kiyawa warned, “Any person found contravening the ban will be promptly arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.”
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Bakori, urged the residents to comply with the regulations and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure peace and order in Kano State.
He said, “The public is encouraged to report violations or suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency numbers: 0803 241 9754, 0812 382 1575, or 0902 929 2926.
“This security partnership, which also includes the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), will take necessary measures to ensure full compliance with the directives for the safety and security of all the residents.” (NAN)
