The Association of Igbo Community in Abuja on Sunday raised the alarm over the attacks and burning of security vehicles in the South-East, insisting that “the only way to end the uneasy calm in Igbo land is to seek political solution over the fate of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).”

The Association also charged security operatives to rise above the attacks by ensuring law and order in the region by being proactive and alive to their responsibilities.

Rising from a meeting of the body, the President, Engr Ikenna-Ellis Ezenekwe, and Secretary General, Chief Emmanuel Ona, dismissed the November 20 Federal High Court Abuja judgement against Kanu, lamenting that it would continue to deepen insecurity in the area.

"At the moment we are seeing pockets of skirmishes in the South-East geopolitical zone where we hear of attacks on security operatives and burning of vehicles and this is not good for Igbo land.

"The security operatives are urged to be alive to their responsibilities to save South East from these incidents and protect public and private properties," the Association stated.

It proffered a political solution to the fate of Kanu, who was given a life sentence for alleged terrorism, noting that in other countries certain political solutions are applied to ensure peace, security, law and order in those countries.

The body called for “the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for peace and security to reign in Igbo land.”
