Police foil bandits’ attack in Katsina, recover guns

The Katsina State Police Command says it has foiled a bandit attack along the Kandawa‑Dankar road in Batsari Local Government Area, recovering two AK‑47 rifles, 24 rounds of live ammunition, and a Boxer motorcycle.

The spokesman of the command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, in a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday, said the suspected hoodlums were attempting to block the Kandawa‑Dankar road in the Batsari local government area of the State.

The statement read, “In compliance with the directives of the Inspector‑General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for enhanced security of lives and property throughout the Federation, the Katsina State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Bello Shehu, psc, fdc, MNIM, following a comprehensive review of security strategies of the command and heightened vigilance, has succeeded in thwarting a suspected bandit activity along Kandawa to Dankar village, Batsari LGA, Katsina State, and recovered two (2) AK‑47 rifles, twenty‑four (24) rounds of live ammunition, and one (1) Boxer motorcycle.

The Incident occurred on November 29, 2025, around 10:00 a.m., when a report was received at Batsari Division about armed suspects attempting to block the road. Officers quickly mobilised, and a brief gunfight ensued, forcing the bandits to flee.

“Upon scanning the scene, 2 AK‑47 rifles with 24 rounds of live ammunition and 1 Boxer motorcycle were recovered from the scene. Investigation is ongoing with a view to arresting the fleeing suspects. Further developments will be communicated in due course.

He commended the officers’ efforts, saying, “The Commissioner of Police appreciates the operatives for their swift response and acts of valour, and urges members of the public to continue supporting the command with timely and credible information for prompt and decisive action against all criminal elements.”

“The command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property throughout the command,” he added.

PUNCH Online had earlier reported that Bandits had released 37 villagers abducted from Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State after weeks of negotiations that led to a peace agreement, according to a lawmaker. (Saturday PUNCH)
