The Funtua Yoruba Community Forum (FNYCF) wishes to clarify recent foreign media narratives—particularly from some American religious and political groups—alleging the existence of a coordinated “Christian genocide” in Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of the Forum’s Christian members, Chief Sunday Adedapo Ojo, Magajin Garin Yarawan Funtua, described these claims as misleading, exaggerated, and inconsistent with the lived reality of Nigerians across all faiths.
Chief Ojo emphasized that the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a secular nation, guided by a Constitution that prohibits the adoption of any religion as a state faith.
“The insecurity challenges Nigeria faces do not target a single faith,” he stated.
“Christians, Muslims, and even those who do not subscribe to any religion have all suffered killings, displacement, and destruction of property.”
He added that because Muslims constitute the majority population—particularly in the North—they naturally account for a significant portion of victims of banditry, insurgency, and communal violence. Any attempt to frame the crisis as a one-sided religious extermination, he argued, is incorrect and harmful to national unity.
Nigeria Needs Technology and Cooperation, Not Foreign Combat Troops
Chief Ojo reiterated that Nigeria does not require foreign soldiers to manage its internal security challenges.
Instead, he called for: enhanced intelligence-sharing, modern surveillance systems, advanced security equipment, and genuine cooperation among Nigerian stakeholders.
“What Nigeria needs is partnership, unity, and sincere collaboration among citizens and religious leaders,” he said.
“We must set aside religious and political differences and work together.”
Caution Against Politically Motivated Foreign Intervention
The Forum warns that some foreign governments and lobby groups may exploit Nigeria’s security situation for geopolitical or economic interests.
Chief Ojo cited the destabilizing examples of Libya, Yemen, Afghanistan, and Syria, where foreign interventions worsened local crises rather than resolving them.
“Foreign involvement often brings consequences that benefit outsiders, not affected communities,” he cautioned.
“Nigeria must address its challenges internally, with unity and strategic support—not military interference.”
Commitment to Peace and National Unity
The Funtua Yoruba Community Forum reaffirms its commitment to peaceful coexistence, interfaith harmony, and responsible civic engagement.
“We stand together as Nigerians,” Chief Ojo concluded.
“May our nation continue to grow stronger in unity, justice, and peace.”
