Amazon has issued a warning to 300 million customers worldwide over sophisticated impersonation scams targeting users, especially during the Black Friday shopping period.
According to the company, cybercriminals are using various tactics to steal sensitive personal, bank, and Amazon account details.
Amazon, however, warned customers about common scam tactics, including fake delivery or account issue messages, deceptive social media advertising, unofficial requests for account or payment information, suspicious links via email or text, and unsolicited tech support calls posing as Amazon representatives.
These scams aim to steal sensitive personal, bank, and Amazon account details, with the E-commerce platform advising customers to be cautious and verify messages through official channels.
Recent cybersecurity reports reveal a surge in fraudulent activities ahead of the holiday season. FortiGuard Labs identified over 18,000 holiday-themed domains, with at least 750 confirmed malicious, while NordVPN noted a 232% spike in fake Amazon websites in October alone, aiming to deceive shoppers.
Experts say the threat is getting more sophisticated. To stay safe, Amazon recommends using the official website for customer service and tracking refunds.
They also suggest setting up two-factor authentication and using passkeys, a safer sign-in method. (Forbes)
