The Leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has warned President Bola Tinubu that Nigeria’s insecurity will continue unless the government moves to send financiers of terrorism to jail.
Ayodele, in a statement on Tuesday signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, said all ongoing efforts to curb insecurity would amount to nothing if the real financiers of terrorism are not identified and prosecuted.
According to him, even international support would be useless if those sponsoring terror from within the country are left untouched.
He said, “If the government doesn’t arrest those financing terrorism, we are not yet serious; it will not end. There are governors, top senators, and former governors in this category, and they should be arrested. If we don’t do it, it means we are not willing to make it end.”
Ayodele insisted that the continued protection of high-profile individuals allegedly funding terror operations is the major reason insecurity persists.
He noted that even the involvement of the United States would not make a difference until the sponsors are brought to justice.
“Even with America’s support, if we don’t identify these people and arrest them, it will be a wasted effort,” he said.
The cleric also urged President Tinubu to urgently approve a multi-layer policing structure to strengthen national security.
He called for the establishment of state, federal and regional police formations to help respond more effectively to threats across different parts of the country.
He advised the President: “President Tinubu should approve the creation of state police, federal police, and regional police; it will help to cushion the effect of insecurity in the country.”
Ayodele further called on security agencies to intensify efforts, adding that terrorists continue to take advantage of ungoverned spaces across rural communities.
He said bushes across the country must be cleared to deny criminals hideouts.
“Security agencies should rise up and focus more on security and the economy now. They need to take efforts to bring down bushes across Nigeria because that’s where they are hiding,” he added. (Nigerian Tribune)
