Auctioneers leaders at the press conference
Nigeria Association of Auctioneers (NAA) has warned all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, (MDAs) against dealing with what it termed “illegal Caretaker Committee”.
The association issued the warning at a press conference held Monday at its Headquarters, Sabon-dale Plaza, Jabi, Abuja.
The press conference was attended by the 6 Zonal Chairmen of the association, representing the 36 State Chapters and the FCT.
On November 15, 2025, a group of individuals claiming to be a Caretaker Committee of the association, had “expelled” the National President of the association, Alhaji Musa Kurra.
Following the development, the chairman of the caucus of state, Alhaji Garba Japan, and zonal chairmen of the association dissociated themselves from the 15th of November called “The Stakeholders Meeting”.
They said that the caretaker committee was “acting in defiance of the Supreme Court Ruling on February 12th, 2025 and the Industrial Court Judgement on 20th July, 2023 simultaneously”, describing it as “legislative rascality of the highest order”.
Alhaji Garba Japan said, “As Chairman of the Caucus of State and Zonal Chairmen, I must condemn in the strongest terms the actions of impostors who, after being compromised by officials within certain Federal Government agencies, participated in irregular asset disposals whose proceeds were never remitted to the government.
“These same individuals later visited those agencies, falsely presenting themselves as the legitimate leadership of the NAA shortly after President Alhaji Musa Kurra intensified his demand for transparency in all government-related auctions.
“We also note with concern that some agencies have, in the past, disregarded valid court directives on asset disposal, a practice that undermines both public trust and the rule of law.
“We use this medium to caution all Federal Government agencies to desist from engaging with any unauthorized individuals and to uphold due process in all auction-related matters.
“We must also draw attention to the fact that the association’s file at the Corporate Affairs Commission is currently under caveat.
“This raises serious concerns about how these individuals were able to tamper with it despite the legal restrictions in place. Our inquiries indicate that a certain Barrister Shelewa, working in collaboration with a desk officer within the CAC, facilitated this unlawful manipulation.”
However, the caucus passed a total Vote of Confidence in the leadership of Alhaji Musa Kurra “as the only National President recognized by the Courts.
They said, “We totally reject the illegal gathering of November 15. The so-called “Board of Trustees” (BoT) involved in that meeting were illegally inserted at the CAC without an AGM. They do not represent us (National Association of Auctioneers).”
The association said it has mandated the National Secretariat to immediately commence Contempt Proceedings against the conveners of the Abuja meeting. (Daily Trust)
