Four members of a family have died in a fire outbreak at Kundila, Layin Baba Impossible in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident, which occurred around 4:13am on Wednesday, was confirmed in a statement issued by the Kano State Fire Service spokesperson, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.

According to the agency, the Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from one of its staff members, HFS Abba Datti, alerting them to the inferno.

Firefighters from the headquarters were immediately deployed to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found a ground-floor residential building measuring 40 by 30 feet completely engulfed in flames, believed to have been triggered bu mosquito coil.

The fire affected two bedrooms, a parlour, a toilet and a kitchen.

Five persons were trapped in the building. They include Shodandi, the father, 43; Rafi’a, the mother, 30; Mardiya Shodandi, 3 years; Yusira Shodandi, one and half years and Aminu Shodandi, 12 years.

The statement said four of the victims — the father, mother, and two younger children — were burnt to death before help could reach them.

However, the 12-year-old boy, Aminu, was rescued.

The agency expressed condolences to the bereaved family and cautioned residents to exercise greater care, especially during the harmattan season when fire outbreaks are more frequent.

Preliminary investigations, according to the Fire Service, revealed that the blaze was triggered by a mosquito coil left burning in the parlour before the family went to sleep. (Daily Trust)
