The race for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has intensified in recent weeks, with 42 countries already securing their places in what will be the biggest World Cup in history.
The expanded 48-team tournament will be jointly hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Despite only eight nations having ever lifted the World Cup trophy, the 2026 edition will feature a wider global spread, but Nigeria will not be part of the tournament after the Super Eagles were eliminated by DR Congo in the CAF playoff final.
