The Jakusko community in Yobe has condemned the recent desecration of a grave by unknown persons in the area.

This is contained in a statement by SP Dungus Abdulkarim, spokesman, Yobe Police Command.

The News Agency of Nigeria NAN) recalls that on Thursday, a grave was found open at Makwalla cemetery in the area and the body was exhumed by unknown persons.

According to Abdulkarim, Alhaji Gremah Lamido, the Village Head of Jakusko, made the condemnation when he led other community leaders to the Divisional Police Headquarters in the area on Tuesday.

He said the village head described the act as “unholy and unacceptable,” assuring the police of the community’s support and cooperation to fish out and arrest the perpetrators.

Abdulkarim urged the residents to resist all forms of ungodly acts and work closely with the security agencies to prevent any recurrence of such cannibalistic and immoral behaviour.

He also appealed to the public to promptly report any suspicious activity or movement around cemeteries to the Police for necessary action.

The PPRO also quoted the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Emmanuel Ado, as commending the community leaders for their proactive engagement, cooperation and support.

Ado reiterated the command’s commitment to working in unison with the community’s stakeholders to ensure that the fleeing perpetrators were brought to justice and to forestall the recurrence of the dastardly act.

“The Nigeria Police Force recognises community leaders as key partners in justice, security, and public safety, especially with the ongoing implementation of community policing across the country,” Abdulkarim said. (NAN)
