At least 1,400 vigilantes, hunters and members of neighbourhood groups have been recruited to tackle lingering security challenges bedevilling various communities in local government areas of Plateau State.
As part of efforts to address the lingering concern, Operation Rainbow, a state security outfit, is training 1,400 personnel to strengthen the security architecture in the state.
The personnel are drawn from the 17 LGAs of the state.
The training of the recruits is taking place amidst recurrent security challenges in various communities of Bokkos, Barikin Ladi, Mangu, Jos South and Bassa local government areas of the state.
Attacks on villages have resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives and the displacement of thousands of residents.
Speaking during the commencement of the training, acting Coordinator of Operation Rainbow, Gakji Shippi, said the objective is to strengthen the security architecture in the state and form part of the mainstream security network.
Our correspondent reports that the training exercise is expected to provide the participants with requisite knowledge in fighting criminality in the state.
