AFROGRAMS alma mater marks 20 years anniversary with legacy projects

Alumni of various schools of learning have been called upon to renew their commitment to their alma mater and forge lasting legacies through impactful initiatives to their various schools.

This appeal was made by Architect Olanrewaju Adelaja, President of the African Church Grammar School (AFROGRAMS), Old Students Association Setclub 99/05, during the grand finale dinner marking the 20th anniversary of his set's graduation, held at the Event Tower Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.

In his address, Architect Adelaja emphasised the importance of giving back to the schools that shaped students into responsible citizens.

"Today is more than just an anniversary; it is a celebration of who we were, who we have become, what we have built, and what we will continue to build together." Arch. Adelaja said.

He urged fellow alumni to spare no effort in propelling their schools to greater heights, especially in their commitments to alma mater by building projects that would uplift schools and leave a legacy of impact that future generations would be celebrated after.

In his remarks, the Chairman, planning committee, Mr. Fashola Ifedolapo echoed gratitude to God, former teachers, and colleagues, reflecting on the journey since graduation of their set.

"It feels like yesterday when we walked out of the school gate, full of dreams, energy, and hope for the future. Back then, we could never have imagined how fast time would fly or how far life could take each of us," Ifedolapo said.

Also, Chairman, Project Committee, Mr. Rahman Oloyede, explained that the initiative seeks to provide reliable, sustainable lighting for students and the broader school community, thereby enhancing the school security.

The celebration featured a gala night with music, awards, and the presentation of plaques and cash gifts to two former principals and ten old teachers in recognition of their contributions. More so, the Setclub's patron and legal adviser were honoured at the event.

Also, the anniversary programme witnessed a Mathematics challenge for senior students, a debate competition featuring junior classes, cash prizes for the top three Physics students, and awards for best male and female sports personalities and the overall best SSS 1 student.

Earlier, a novelty football match saw the celebrants' team defeat the senior set (Setclub 98/04) 2-1.

The highlight of the anniversary was the handover of the Setclub's project, tagged "PROJECT LIGHT UP AFROGRAMS," with a series of installed street lamps along a major road in the school.

A Jumuah prayer was held on Friday, November 7, at the school's Muslim prayer ground, and a thanksgiving service concluded the four-day celebration at the African Church Cathedral, Owu, Abeokuta.
