NNPC: Ohaneze youths withdraw petition against Mbakwe’s appointment

Sophia Mbakwe

Ohaneze Youth Council (OYC) on Friday formally withdrew the petition filed before the House of Representatives to investigate the appointment of Mrs. Sophia Mbakwe into Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) Business Services Division.

The Council conveyed the decision via a letter titled: ‘Withdrawal of petition against Sophia Mbakwe’, dated 14th November 2025 and addressed to the Chairman, House of Representatives’ Committee on Public Petitions.

The letter was jointly signed by OYC’s President and Secretary General, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, and Comrade Ifeanyichulwu Nweke, respectively.

It reads: “The Ohaneze Youth Council (OYC) writes to formally withdraw the petition earlier submitted against the appointment of Mrs. Sophia Mbakwe into the NNPCL Business Services Division.

“We have confirmed from reliable sources that the initial facts upon which our petition was based were misleading but has now verified that Mrs. Mbakwe, the wife of our late son Mr. Theo Mbakwe, is a respected professional with strong qualifications and has an outstanding resume which is deserving of such an appointment.

“In view of these findings, we hereby withdraw the petition in its entirety and apologize for any inconvenience caused.

“We extend our apologies to Mr. President, the Speaker of the House, the Public Petitions Committee, and the NNPCL management for the earlier misrepresentation.

“The Ohaneze Youth Council remains committed to constructive engagement and to supporting efforts that ensure fairness and inclusion in national development.” (Nigerian Tribune)
