The Rivers State Police Command, in collaboration with the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), has rescued a 15-year-old girl, Uchechi Ukoro, from the custody of her guardian, Mrs. Benedicta Ezenibe, who allegedly subjected her to severe physical abuse.
Uchechi was reportedly burnt with a hot kitchen knife by her guardian, who accused her of “following boys”, and had also been stopped from attending school. The incident occurred at No. 7 Wogboroma Street, Rumuokwuta, where the teenager had been living.
It was learnt that the Rivers State branch of FIDA received a distress call about Uchechi’s condition on Monday, November 10, 2025, and immediately alerted Kala Police Station. With police support, the girl was rescued and taken to a safe home.
“The victim is now in a safe home. FIDA Rivers State branch remains committed to following up on this matter until Miss Uchechi is safely reunited with her biological parents and justice is served,” said Rachel Princewill, FIDA’s Publicity Secretary.
The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incident and said the investigation is ongoing. (The Guardian, but headline rejigged)
