Soludo approves establishment of 33 new public schools

Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the establishment of 30 new public schools across various communities in the state.

This was contained in a statement released by the state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor on Thursday.

According to Mefor, the approval was one of the key resolutions reached at the Anambra State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.

He explained that the new schools would be established in communities where no public schools previously existed.

The Commissioner said, ”The initiative is part of Governor Soludo’s broader commitment to improving access to quality education and ensuring that every child in Anambra has the opportunity to attend a publicly funded school within their locality.

“The move underscores the administration’s determination to promote inclusive development, bridge educational gaps, and strengthen the state’s human capital base.

“Various significant decisions were made at the 22nd Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) meeting, which took place on November 12, 2025, at Light House Awka.

“The council agreed to build an additional thirty new primary schools across communities after receiving the report of communities lacking public primary and secondary schools.

“This will deepen the impact of the education programmes of the Solution Government and ensure that every community in the state benefits from the Soludo administration’s free education policy.”

While noting that other decisions reached at the meeting include, the adoption of the 2026-2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), which paved the way for the 2026 Annual Budget to be presented to the Anambra State House of Assembly, he stressed that such move will guarantee that the 2026 Appropriations Bill is assented to by December 31st, 2026, at the latest.

Mefor further said that the council also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and its chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, for the conduct of last Saturday’s election.

While scoring the Commission conduct of the election high in integrity, the statement added that the Council examined the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election, in which the incumbent Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo who is the the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), won, citing that the governor was decisively re-elected by an extraordinary 73%, winning in 21 of the 21 local government areas.

The council observed that it is a proof that the hypothesis that electoral success results from providing value and development to a people.

It added: "The Council is committed to rededicating themselves to duty and to finish strong. The Exco expressed gratitude to Ndi Anambra for their faith in Governor Soludo and for their excellent conduct before, during, and after the governorship election.”
