Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has provided proof that his trip to Turkey was not taken to escape a possible invasion of Nigeria by U.S President Donald Trump against terrorists allegedly killing Christians.
After photos surfaced showing Sheikh Gumi in Turkey, many netizens expressed the belief that the cleric had fled Nigeria following Trump’s threat.
According to them, since he has photos of himself meeting with the terrorists on different occasions, he may have fled Nigeria to escape being targeted by U.S forces.
An X user, @KizyUzoma, said, “Nigeria terrorists spokesman Sheikh Gumi Reportedly Flees To Turkey. Finally, Gumi has fled to Turkey, leaving behind wassaping and other terrorists sympathisers behind. The fear of President Trump.”
@GeneralSnow_ said, “So Gumi don run go Turkey? Ok na. He passed through our immigration abi? Ok na.”
@VivianRora said, “Gumi has fled to Turkey, leaving behind wassaping and other terrorist sympathisers. The fear of Trump ”
However, Sheikh Gumi, who is still in Turkey, granting media interviews, revealed that his trip to the country had been planned long before Trump threatened action against Christians,
He shared on Facebook, “I got my Turkish visa on the 16th October 2025, and Trump’s irresponsible tweet lying about ‘Christian genocide’ in Nigeria was on the 1st Nov. 2025. Yet, because of melancholy, they concoct lies and believe them. Trump has no power over us; it’s just your sick mind bowing down to him in worship.”
In another post, the cleric said, “After the fog has cleared. The alleged ‘Christian genocide’ in Nigeria is all about a well-drawn-out plan to attack the Shariah Law and Islamophobia.”
He also said that Trump’s lies about ‘Christian genocide’ in Nigeria have exposed unpatriotic, hateful citizens who wish no good for the nation. “We can’t be deceived anymore,” he added.
Further playing down Christian genocide claims, Sheikh Gumi stated that a doctor wrote to him that Christians in the Middle Belt are staging fake mass killings by burying empty coffins.
He wrote, “A Doctor wrote me: Do you know that some Middle Belt Christian groups are now staging fake mass killings? They are burying empty coffins and recording the process as if real victims were killed, just to push the narrative of a Christian genocide. This is desperation at its peak. A disgrace. Manipulating information just to provoke hatred and international sympathy?”
Urging people not to trust claims about Christian genocide, he said, “Trump lied before that Israel attacked Iran unilaterally. These people are dangerously Deceptive. Continue to trust them at your own peril.” (THE GUARDIAN)
